Meet Alexa: ASP Summer Steward

Year at MSU: Senior/ 4th
Area of Study: Comparative Cultures and Politics

What are you watching/reading right now?
I’m watching the Office currently and am always watching reruns of Seinfeld. I’m also just starting to read Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann.

What’s your theme song?
Good Day Sunshine by the Beatles

Where did you study abroad? Where have you traveled?
I have studied abroad in South Africa, Portugal, and Sri Lanka. I have also traveled to Canada, Mexico, Spain, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the UAE.

What’s a favorite memory you have from traveling?
My favorite memory from traveling was a weekend trip I took to Liechtenstein with a few friends during my semester studying abroad in Portugal. I knew nothing about Liechtenstein previous to going (besides that it was small and thus I wanted to go). It was an absolutely amazing weekend full of hiking, looking at gorgeous views of the Alps, listening to bands, watching parades (we happened to be there during a big festival), and making new friends. I would love to go back one day!

What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer, in Michigan?
I love hanging out with family and friends at my family’s cabin in Frankfort, Michigan. We go kayaking on Lake Michigan, grill out, go on bike rides and soak up the sun at our favorite beach.

Why did you choose MSU for your studies?
I choose MSU specifically because I wanted to study through James Madison College (a residential college at MSU focused on public affairs and public policy). My family hosted a lot of exchange students while I was growing up which made me interested in working with international communities and social justice, so James Madison was the perfect program for me. Also, I’ve been bleeding green since I was a baby, as both of my parents and my grandfather attended MSU. Go Green!

Where do you hope to travel to next?
I would love to go to Iceland next.

Typically, do you over-pack or under-pack on a trip?
Over-pack for sure- but I’m working on it and improving!

Airplane food: Hit or miss?
In the moment, it’s usually a hit for me!
